TechSpot:  Upgrading your
Acquisition Computer

Thinking about upgrading your existing acquisition computer to a newer one?  If so, please review the following to make this an easy transition.

First, review the Minimum system requirements for Cheetah5 to verify that the computer you are interested in meets these requirements.  Please note that Cheetah5 is only supported on a 32-bit Windows OS.  If you are unsure whether or not your PC meets these requirements please contact

If you purchase your acquisition PC from another vendor, you will need to transfer all necessary hardware cards (i.e. Dual Port Intel Fiber Card) from the previous acquisition PC to the new one.  Follow the necessary steps indicated in the Digital Lynx SX acquisition hardware manual (pages 27-30) to configure the computer appropriately.
After configuring the hardware appropriately, you need to license the Cheetah software by providing 2 logfiles to your NLX Sales Representative.  The first logfile can come from any recent recording session from your previous acquisition PC.  To generate the second logfile, download and install the latest version of Cheetah.  During the installation, skip the step requesting license information; this will be addressed later.  Provide your Sales Representative with the logfile generated once Cheetah is opened.  This file can be found in the data directory specified or by clicking the “View Logfile” button in Cheetah (see below)

Once we have both of the requested logfiles, a new license file, NlxLicense.lic, will be provided to you via email.  Please place the NlxLicense.lic in a newly created “C:\Downloads” folder.  Open Cheetah and select “HelpLicensing;” the window shown below will appear.  Next, click “Update License File” and navigate to the location of the recently saved license file and select it.  You will need to restart Cheetah for this update to take effect.

Neuralynx offers fully loaded and tested HP acquisition computers, specifically HP Z420 and HP Z820, that can be purchased with all NLX software and hardware pre-installed, making the transition seamless.  Please contact your Neuralynx Sales Representative for more information:
